Googleā€™s new AI video model Veo 2 will cost 50 cents per second

Google has quietly announced the pricing for Veo 2, its AI-powered video generation tool. According to its pricing page, creating videos with Veo 2 will cost 50 cents per second , which equals $30 per minute or $1,800 per hour. For context, a Google DeepMind researcher compared this to the budget of Avengers: Endgame, which cost around $32,000 per second to produce. While Veo 2 wonā€™t be making full-length Hollywood blockbusters anytime soon, Google highlighted its ability to generate clips at least two minutes long. However, customers should keep in mind that they pay for every second generated, even if they donā€™t use all of it.

Did xAI Mislead About Grok 3ā€™s Benchmarks? OpenAI Disputes Claims

xAIā€™s chart showed Grok 3 Reasoning Beta and Grok 3 mini Reasoning outperforming OpenAIā€™s o3-mini-high model on the AIME 2025 math benchmark. However, OpenAI employees quickly pointed out that xAI left out a key metric called ā€œcons@64ā€ (consensus@64), which lets models attempt each problem 64 times and choose the most common answerā€”a method that significantly boosts scores. When looking at first-attempt accuracy (@1 scores), OpenAIā€™s o3-mini-high actually outperformed Grok 3, and Grok 3 Reasoning Beta even lagged behind OpenAIā€™s o1 model at ā€œmediumā€ computing power. This raises doubts about xAIā€™s claim that Grok 3 is the ā€œworldā€™s smartest AI.ā€

Alibaba commits US$53 billion for AI infrastructure in largest private computing project

Alibaba Group plans to invest around $52.4 billion (380 billion yuan) over the next three years to expand its cloud computing and AI infrastructure. This is the largest AI investment by a private company in China and is even bigger than Alibabaā€™s total AI spending over the past decade. The investment is also about half of the initial $100 billion Stargate AI plan backed by the U.S. This move highlights Alibabaā€™s strong commitment to AI development and cloud technology.

Meta AI arrives in the Middle East and Africa with support for Arabic

Meta has expanded its Meta AI chatbot to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), making it available in 10 new countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, and Morocco. The chatbot now also supports Arabic. Users can access Meta AI on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger by tagging @meta in a chat to get recommendations, like places to visit or songs for a playlist. Meta also plans to introduce more features, such as AI-generated selfies and audio dubbing for Instagram Reels. With this expansion, Meta AI is now available in 42 countries across 13 languages, serving 700 million users. However, the features available may differ by region, especially in Europe, where privacy rules limit AI capabilities on devices like Metaā€™s Ray-Ban AR glasses.
