Singapore commits $74.3M for quantum and AI in finance

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has allocated 100 million Singapore dollars ($74.36 million) to boost quantum computing and AI in the financial sector. This funding, part of the Financial Sector Technology and Innovation Scheme (FSTI 3.0), offers up to 50% co-funding for quantum computing projects and up to 30% for quantum-based cybersecurity solutions. It also supports AI innovation centers, with an initial AI pilot focusing on fraud detection. The scheme runs until March 2026, with potential extensions based on its impact.

Nvidia preparing version of new flagship AI chip for Chinese market

Nvidia is creating a China-specific version of its new "Blackwell" AI chips, called the "B20," to comply with U.S. export controls. Partnering with Inspur, Nvidia plans to start shipments in Q2 2025. This move aims to regain market share in China, where sales have declined due to sanctions. Despite initial slow sales, Nvidia's H20 chips are now selling rapidly in China.

Samsung is looking into new phone form factors with AI in mind

Samsung is exploring new smartphone designs tailored for generative AI applications, aiming to create "AI phones" that are more mobile and feature larger screens and more sensors. Roh Tae-moon, president of Samsung’s Mobile Experience unit, indicated that a significant portion of their R&D is focused on these AI-driven form factors, which will look "radically different" from current models.
