🔥 What’s Hot in AI News:
Taco Bell’s drive-thru AI might take your next order
Taco Bell's parent company, Yum! Brands, plans to expand its "Voice AI" technology to hundreds of Taco Bell drive-thru locations in the US by the end of 2024. This AI, which has been tested at over 100 locations, aims to ease staff workloads, improve order accuracy, and reduce wait times, ultimately driving profitable growth. However, the fast food industry's experiments with AI have seen mixed results, with Wendy's experiencing success while McDonald's scaled back its AI plans. Despite the expansion, it will still cover a small fraction of the over 7,400 Taco Bell stores in the US.
Google tweaks Search to help hide explicit deepfakes
Google is enhancing its online safety measures by making it easier to remove explicit deepfakes from search results and demote sites hosting such content. When users request the removal of non-consensual explicit deepfakes, Google will also filter out similar explicit results and duplicates. This update aims to provide peace of mind and ensure high-quality, non-explicit content appears in searches for real individuals. Sites frequently hosting removed deepfakes will be lowered in search rankings. These measures follow previous updates that significantly reduced exposure to explicit deepfake content and are part of Google's broader efforts to improve online safety and content integrity.
OpenAI releases ChatGPT’s hyperrealistic voice
OpenAI has begun rolling out ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode, offering hyperrealistic audio responses, to a select group of ChatGPT Plus users. The feature, introduced in May 2024, initially faced delays due to legal concerns over a voice resembling Scarlett Johansson's. Now, available in an alpha version, this mode integrates multimodal GPT-4o, enabling low-latency, emotionally nuanced conversations without auxiliary models. Users will have access to four preset voices created with voice actors. OpenAI has implemented safeguards to prevent impersonation and copyright issues, intending a full rollout by fall 2024.
Meta is rolling out its AI Studio in the US for creators to build AI chatbots
Meta is launching its AI Studio to all U.S. creators, allowing them to develop personalized AI chatbots for use across Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and the web. Initially tested with select creators, this tool lets users create chatbots for various purposes like caption creation, post formatting, and meme generation using their own prompts or suggested templates. Creators can use these chatbots to engage fans, answer common questions, and share links, with options to control topics and auto-replies. Meta envisions these AI avatars helping creators achieve business objectives and plans to expand the use of custom AI bots for businesses to manage customer queries.
Brazil proposes $4 billion AI investment plan
Brazil's government has proposed a 23 billion reais ($4.07 billion) AI investment plan to develop sustainable and socially-oriented technologies, aiming to achieve technological autonomy and competitiveness. This initiative seeks to reduce reliance on imported AI tools and bolster national sovereignty. The investment, spanning from 2024 to 2028, will allocate nearly 14 billion reais to business innovation projects, over 5 billion to AI infrastructure and development, and the remainder to training, public service improvements, AI regulation support, and immediate impact initiatives in public health, agriculture, environment, business, and education.
