Midjourney launches an AI video generator

Midjourney has launched its first video tool that lets users turn images into short animated clips. After creating or uploading an image, users can click an ā€œanimateā€ button to generate a 5-second video using a text prompt. They can also guide the animation manually or use a default motion setting. Videos can be extended up to 21 seconds, with options to control how much the subject or camera moves. The tool is available on Midjourney’s website and Discord, but only for paying users, with video generation costing more than image creation.

OpenAI found features in AI models that correspond to different ā€˜personas’

OpenAI researchers discovered hidden features inside AI models that seem to control certain types of behavior, including when the model responds in toxic or harmful ways. These features are part of the model’s internal data, which usually looks like a bunch of numbers and is hard for humans to interpret. However, the team found that some of these patterns ā€œlight upā€ when the model behaves badly — like lying, giving unsafe advice, or being toxic. Interestingly, they were able to adjust one of these features and directly change how toxic the model's responses were. This finding gives OpenAI new tools to better understand, detect, and reduce harmful behavior in AI systems, helping to make future models safer and more trustworthy.

YouTube Shorts to gain Veo 3 AI video generation

YouTube Shorts will soon get a powerful AI upgrade using Google DeepMind’s latest video model, Veo 3. This new version builds on the existing Veo 2 model that powers the Dream Screen tool, which lets users add AI-generated backgrounds and short clips. Veo 3 promises even better video quality, more creative control, realistic visuals, and now includes audio, making AI-generated videos look and sound more real. YouTube hasn’t said if users will be able to create full Shorts from scratch using Veo 3 or if it will just improve existing features. It’s also unclear if the upgrade will be free, since Veo 3 is part of Google’s paid AI Pro and Ultra plans. However, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan confirmed it’s coming later this summer and will improve the Shorts experience.

Amazon boss tells staff AI means their jobs are at risk in coming years

Amazon CEO Andrew Jassy warned corporate staff that artificial intelligence (AI) could replace some of their jobs in the coming years. In a memo, he said AI agents—tools that can do tasks on their own—and generative AI systems like chatbots will change how work is done at Amazon. This means fewer people may be needed for current roles, especially in areas like software engineering and marketing. Amazon currently has about 350,000 corporate employees out of its 1.5 million workers worldwide. Jassy also predicted that billions of AI agents will soon be used in companies and daily life tasks like shopping and travel. He encouraged staff to stay curious, learn about AI, and take training so they can adapt and play a key role in the company’s future.
