TikTok will give advertisers even more data on trends and users

TikTok has introduced new AI-powered tools to help brands create more targeted and effective ads. One of the main tools, called Insight Spotlight, lets advertisers see what types of videos their audience is watching, which keywords are trending, and what content is gaining popularity. For example, it might suggest a brand make videos about ā€œhormonal healthā€ for English-speaking women and even tell them which keywords to include. These updates make it easier for brands to follow trends, understand their audience better, and create content that fits what people are already interested in on the platform.

DeepSeek may have used Google’s Gemini to train its latest model

DeepSeek has released a new version of its reasoning model, R1-0528, which performs well on math and coding tasks. However, some developers and researchers believe the model may have been partly trained on outputs from Google’s Gemini AI. One developer, Sam Paech, pointed out that DeepSeek’s model uses language similar to Gemini’s, and another noted that its reasoning process feels like Gemini’s as well. DeepSeek has faced similar accusations in the past, including claims that one of its older models was trained on ChatGPT data. OpenAI suspects DeepSeek may be using a method called ā€œdistillationā€ to copy outputs from other advanced models — something OpenAI forbids under its terms. While there’s no definitive proof, concerns are growing as AI-generated content becomes harder to trace and more common online.

Microsoft integrates OpenAI's Sora video creator into Bing

Microsoft has added a new AI video tool called Bing Video Creator to its Bing search engine. It uses OpenAI’s Sora to make short videos from text prompts and is now available on the Bing mobile app, with desktop and Copilot Search support coming soon. Microsoft has already used OpenAI’s tools before, like the DALL-E image generator, so this move follows a similar pattern. Sora has had some challenges, including pushback from YouTube and early testers, and now faces competition from other advanced video tools like Google’s Veo 3.

Google working on AI tool to answer emails in your style

Demis Hassabis, head of Google DeepMind, says AI will transform the world like the internet or Industrial Revolution—but first, he wants it to solve the everyday problem of email. His team is working on a smart email assistant that can sort messages, reply in your style, and handle simple tasks. He also sees AI helping people stay focused by protecting them from distracting algorithms. Hassabis believes artificial general intelligence (AGI) could arrive in 5–10 years and urges global cooperation to ensure it’s developed safely and its benefits are shared fairly.
