Meta's new AI model, Chameleon, integrates images and text using an advanced "early-fusion token-based" architecture. It excels in tasks like image captioning and visual question answering, and performs well in text-only tasks. Trained on 4.4 trillion tokens, Chameleon demonstrates strong performance with fewer examples. If Meta releases its model weights, it could provide an open alternative to private models from OpenAI and Google.

Microsoft, Khan Academy provide free AI assistant for all educators in US

Microsoft and Khan Academy are offering a free AI assistant, Khanmigo for Teachers, to all U.S. educators. Funded by Microsoft, the tool helps create lessons, analyze student performance, and plan assignments. Currently used by 65,000 students, it leverages OpenAI’s GPT technology. The initiative also includes developing targeted AI models for math tutoring. Khan Academy aims to reduce costs from $35 to $10-$20 per student annually and will integrate its content into Microsoft Teams for Education.

Adobe Lightroom gets Firefly AI-powered 'Generative Remove' editing feature

Adobe Lightroom has introduced a new "Generative Remove" feature powered by its Firefly AI model, allowing users to remove unwanted objects from photos with high-quality, realistic results. Available across mobile, web, and desktop platforms, this feature is described as Lightroom's most powerful remove tool yet. Elon Musk’s xAI is working on making Grok multimodal

Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, is adding multimodal capabilities to its Grok chatbot, allowing users to upload images for text-based answers. Developer documents reveal a Python script demonstrating this feature. This update follows Grok 1.5's release, which improved reasoning abilities. Founded in March 2023, xAI aims to compete with AI leaders like OpenAI, as multimodal chatbots become a key industry focus.

Amazon Alexa’s big AI upgrade could require a new subscription

Amazon is planning a major AI upgrade for Alexa, which will require a new subscription separate from the $139 Prime membership, reports CNBC. This upgraded version, set to launch later this year, will offer a "more conversational" experience powered by a large language model (LLM). Users can already preview some features by saying, "Alexa, let’s chat," to their Echo devices. This move aligns with Amazon's broader strategy to enhance Alexa's capabilities amidst competition from Google and Apple's AI advancements.
