🔥 What’s Hot in AI News:
X plans to more deeply integrate Grok’s AI, app researcher finds
Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter) plans to integrate xAI's Grok more deeply into the platform, with features like querying accounts, highlighting text for Grok searches, and using a Grok pop-up while browsing. Discovered by app researcher Nima Owji, these features aim to enhance user interaction with AI. Despite these enhancements, X's in-app revenue has declined from $8.2 million in March to $7.6 million in May 2024, attributed to competition and adaptation to the rebranding from Twitter, with a 32% drop in App Store downloads year-over-year in May.
Nvidia to make $12bn from AI chips in China this year despite US controls
YouTube now allows users to request the removal of AI-generated content that mimics their face or voice. This policy change, rolled out quietly in June, lets individuals cite privacy concerns to prompt takedowns. YouTube will assess each request based on factors like content disclosure and public interest, with a 48-hour window for creators to respond. While privacy complaints won't trigger automatic penalties, repeated violations could impact accounts.
A hacker stole OpenAI secrets, raising fears that China could, too…
A hacker infiltrated OpenAI’s internal messaging systems earlier this year and stole details about its AI technologies. OpenAI chose not to make the breach public or inform authorities, as they did not consider it a national security threat. The hacker accessed discussions among employees but not the core systems where AI is developed. OpenAI informed its employees and board of directors about the breach in April 2023. Concerns were raised internally about the adequacy of OpenAI’s security measures, particularly regarding potential threats from foreign adversaries like China. A former employee, Leopold Aschenbrenner, criticized the company's security efforts and was later dismissed, a move he claimed was politically motivated. OpenAI disputes his claims, stating they addressed the incident appropriately.
Robot 'commits suicide' in South Korea
A robot employed by the Gumi City Council in South Korea fell down stairs, leading to speculation of 'robot suicide.' Experts suggest a technical malfunction or glitch is more likely. The robot, developed by Bear Robotics, had been working since August 2023, performing tasks like document deliveries. Eyewitnesses reported unusual behavior before the fall. The cause is under investigation, with possibilities including navigational errors or sensor failures. The incident has temporarily halted plans to introduce a second robot officer.
