Gemini 2.0 is now available to everyone
Google has released significant updates to its Gemini 2.0 AI models, making Gemini 2.0 Flash generally available via the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI for developers to build production applications. An experimental version of Gemini 2.0 Pro, optimized for coding and complex prompts, is now accessible in Google AI Studio, Vertex AI, and the Gemini app for Gemini Advanced users. Additionally, Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite, the most cost-efficient model, is available in public preview, while 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental has been introduced in the Gemini app. These models currently support multimodal input with text output, with broader capabilities set to roll out in the coming months.
Say Goodbye to Google search forever
ChatGPT Search is now available to everyone, even without an OpenAI account, making AI-powered search more accessible than ever. This update allows users to quickly find information with detailed summaries and sources, offering an alternative to traditional search engines like Google. Unlike previous versions, which had a knowledge cutoff, ChatGPT Search can now provide up-to-date information on current events, sports, and politics. While it presents a compelling alternative, some users may still prefer the control and familiarity of Google. As AI search engines evolve, ChatGPT Search could mark a significant shift in how people access and consume online information.
UAE to invest billions in France AI data centre
The United Arab Emirates will invest between €30 billion and €50 billion to build Europe’s largest artificial intelligence (AI) data centre in France, as announced by the French presidency. The centre will serve as the core of a new AI campus and have up to a gigawatt of capacity. The project is part of a broader AI agreement signed between French President Emmanuel Macron and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Paris. It aims to strengthen AI collaboration between the two nations while positioning France as a key player in AI development within Europe. Announced during a major AI gathering in Paris, the initiative comes amid global discussions on AI’s opportunities and challenges. The AI campus will support data storage and energy-intensive AI applications, reinforcing Europe's role in the global AI race.
Microsoft Edge now has an AI-powered scareware blocker
Microsoft has begun rolling out a new AI-powered scareware blocker in its Edge browser, designed to protect users from scams by detecting and blocking malicious full-screen pop-ups. The feature, which runs locally on Windows PCs, uses a machine learning model to identify both known and emerging scams without sending data to the cloud. When a scam is detected, Edge automatically exits full-screen mode, stops audio playback, and warns users with a thumbnail of the malicious page. Users can then report the site to Microsoft’s Defender SmartScreen for further protection.
