🔥 What’s Hot in AI News:
xAI Raises $6B to Accelerate AI Innovation
Elon Musk's xAI has raised $6 billion in Series C funding, backed by prominent investors such as NVIDIA, AMD, and venture capital leaders like Andreessen Horowitz. The funding will enable further advancements in AI infrastructure and product development. xAI's supercomputer "Colossus," powered by 100,000 NVIDIA Hopper GPUs, achieved operational status in just 122 days. Plans are in place to double Colossus's capabilities to 200,000 GPUs.
The company is also training its next-gen Grok 3 model while continuing to expand its offerings with tools like the Grok 2 language model, a developer API, and the Aurora image generator. New features on X (formerly Twitter) utilize AI for contextualizing posts, pulling from both platform content and traditional media sources.
Google Reportedly Uses Anthropic’s Claude to Improve Its Gemini AI
Google is reportedly using Anthropic's AI model, Claude, to enhance its own Gemini AI system. Contractors working on Gemini compare its responses to those generated by Claude, evaluating aspects like truthfulness and length. They have up to 30 minutes per prompt to determine which answer is superior.
Some contractors observed that Claude prioritizes safety more than Gemini, occasionally declining to respond to prompts it deems unsafe.
Google, a significant investor in Anthropic, has not confirmed whether it has permission to use Claude in this manner. Shira McNamara, a spokesperson for Google DeepMind, stated that while they compare model outputs for evaluations, they do not train Gemini using Anthropic's models. Anthropic has not commented on the situation.
OpenAI Has Discussed Making a Humanoid Robot
OpenAI is reportedly considering developing a humanoid robot, according to The Information. The discussions align with OpenAI's past interest in robotics, including investments in Figure AI Inc., a company working on humanoid robots for tasks like warehouse operations. OpenAI's expertise, showcased in projects like teaching a robotic arm to solve a Rubik’s cube, could play a significant role in any future robotic endeavors.
Microsoft Will No Longer Be Exclusive to OpenAI
Microsoft plans to reduce its reliance on OpenAI by incorporating more internal and third-party AI models into Microsoft 365 Copilot, aiming to cut costs and diversify its AI sources. This follows GitHub's (owned by Microsoft) integration of models from Anthropic and Google. Additionally, Microsoft’s agreement with OpenAI includes a clause that limits access to OpenAI’s top models if the company achieves artificial general intelligence (AGI). With OpenAI making strides toward AGI, Microsoft is exploring alternatives to stay competitive. Meanwhile, concerns over Microsoft's partnership with OpenAI have sparked legal challenges, including accusations from Elon Musk of anti-competitive practices.
