OpenAIās new Operator, the AI agent that books dinner and more
OpenAI has introduced Operator, a new AI assistant available to US-based ChatGPT Pro subscribers. It can navigate websites on its own, performing tasks like filling out forms, ordering groceries, or booking a reservation, without needing any special setup from the websites. Users just tell Operator what they want to do, and it takes care of the rest in a separate browser window within ChatGPT. Operator works by taking screenshots of a webpage, thinking through what to do next, and then clicking, typing, or scrolling to get things done. You can customize it with your own instructions for specific tasks, and it lets you manage several tasks at once. This makes it easier to use AI to handle routine web tasks automatically.
Anthropicās new Citations feature aims to reduce AI errors
Anthropic has introduced a new feature called Citations for its developer API, which helps AI models, like the Claude family, provide references to the exact parts of documents they use to generate responses. This feature allows developers to "ground" the AI's answers in source documents, such as emails or reports, by including citations directly in the response. Citations are especially useful for tasks like document summarization, answering questions, and customer support, where it's important to show the source of information.
This feature is available through Anthropicās API and Googleās Vertex AI platform. However, it's only available for specific models, Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Claude 3.5 Haiku, and may come with extra charges depending on the size and number of documents.
Elon Musk clashes with OpenAI's Sam Altman over Stargate AI data centre project
Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman are arguing about a huge new AI project called Stargate, backed by President Trump. This project aims to invest up to $500 billion in AI and is a partnership between OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank. Trump announced it as a big boost for America, but Musk disagreed, saying SoftBank doesnāt have enough money for it. Altman rejected Muskās claim and invited him to visit the projectās construction site in Texas. This conflict is part of a bigger rivalry between Musk and Altman, who have clashed over OpenAI's leadership and its shift from being a nonprofit to a for-profit company. Musk has also started his own AI company, xAI, which is building a competing data center.
Perplexity now has a mobile assistant on Android
Perplexity has introduced an AI-powered assistant for Android phones. This assistant can answer your questions, write emails, set reminders, book dinners, and more. It can also use your phone's camera to understand what's in front of you and help with tasks like booking a ride. For example, if you ask it to get a ride, it will find your location and open Uber with available rides to where you want to go. Itās a smart assistant designed to make everyday tasks easier and more efficient.
