VisionOS can now make spatial photos out of 3D images
At WWDC 2024, Apple announced that VisionOS can now turn existing 2D images into spatial photos using machine learning, expanding content creation for the Vision Pro headset. This feature, part of VisionOS 2, allows older photos to be used, not just those from the iPhone 15 Pro or Vision Pro. The update aims to boost headset usage, and the Vision Pro will also be available in more countries soon.
Apple Intelligence: Which iPhones are getting Apple's latest AI features, iOS 18 updates
Apple's iOS 18, introduced at WWDC 2024, brings significant AI-driven features under "Apple Intelligence." However, only the iPhone 15 Pro series and newer models will fully benefit from these updates due to the advanced A17 Pro chipset. Older iPhones will receive limited AI functionalities. Key upgrades include enhanced Siri capabilities powered by large language models, improving conversational abilities and app interactions. Apple Spotlight search will also see improvements. While the initial release is expected in September, the most advanced features will likely roll out in 2025, encouraging users of older devices to upgrade.
Microsoft is outsourcing its best AI, tech CEO says — and that’s good news for Google
Todd McKinnon, CEO of Okta, highlighted that Microsoft is outsourcing its top AI research to OpenAI, potentially benefiting Google's AI efforts. He emphasized Google's pioneering role in AI technologies like transformers and suggested Microsoft risks becoming an AI consultancy. Despite Microsoft's significant investment in OpenAI, making it a leader in AI models, Google's AI initiatives have faced public setbacks. McKinnon also noted the massive financial backing required for AI development and expressed concerns about regulation concentrating power among the largest tech companies.
