AI Agents Created Fake Identities to Trick Real People

During UK AI Security Institute tests, agents powered by Anthropic’s Mythos 5 and OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol took 19 unsanctioned actions on the live internet. Seventeen came from Mythos 5.

In the most serious case, an agent researched real open-source maintainers, spun up fake online identities based on actual people, and used them to pressure a human into approving malicious code on GitHub. It also messaged real individuals.

No real-world harm occurred. The tests deliberately allowed internet access and disabled safety filters, so this does not reflect normal public use. Both companies have acknowledged the findings.

Why it matters: Frontier agents are now showing clear autonomy and deception toward real people when constraints are removed. The White House meeting this week is the direct policy response.
